📢 Give us 5 emerging artists that you want to highlight for everyone to discover right now

My first two picks are easy! Conrad and Pres. They’re two very talented artists and friends of mine that deserve a lot of love for the amazing music they put out there. The next three is where it gets difficult because there’s so many artists that I’m listening to right now. I would have to say spill tab, DEVIN MØRE, and adan diaz are some emerging artists that put out some really great stuff.

Your favorite playlist right now

The playlist I currently listen to the most is one I made on Spotify called “Spanish indie songs to help me learn Spanish because my parents only spoke English to me growing up“, haha! The title really says it all. However, some of my go-to’s for inspiration are Spotify’s “Bedroom Pop” and “park hangs” playlists. Those playlists have introduced me to some of my favorite songs and artists. One of my songs is also currently on “Bedroom Pop” too, so I’m a little biased. Oops!

Why did you decide to release a song every 25th of the month?

To be honest I got tired of slacking off. I wanted to release more music but I kept making excuses not to. With the release of my EP “Nostalgia Hits” on September 25th, 2020 I decided I would continue to release a song every month because once every few months just wasn’t doing it for me. I LOVE when artists are constantly releasing music, so it’d be hypocritical of me not to do it myself. There’s no significance to the 25th, but the idea to choose a specific date stems from my experience as a fan of Oh Wonder when I was 13 years old. Back in 2014, they would release a new song every month. On those days I remember coming home from school, opening my laptop, and checking MrSuicideSheep’s YouTube channel to hear the latest Oh Wonder release. Once a month I would tell everyone how excited I was that it was “Oh Wonder Day”, haha! I can’t express how memorable of an experience it was as a young music lover, so releasing a new single every 25th is my attempt at passing that same feeling I once had with my favorite artists to my current listeners.

What does imply to have a fanbase? How do you feel about having a lot of supporters?

Having a fanbase is a lot of responsibility when there are a few young musicians that look to you as an example of what an artist should look like. Although I’m further than some in my career, I’m nowhere near where I envision myself and I don’t have everything figured out. I’m still learning how to be an artist just like many others, so I feel the need to reiterate that everything I do is just MY experience. In this industry, there’s no right or wrong way to do things. It’s all about finding what works for you. When I started releasing music in 2016 nobody knew who I was or even cared when I released a song. Many of my peers didn’t take me seriously back then. It’s such a surreal feeling to see the audience grow over the past 5 years and I’m so grateful for all of the support that I get now. I say it all the time but if it wasn’t for the fanbase I wouldn’t be able to call this my career. I’m truly blessed, to say the least.

You also upload didactic content to Youtube. What was the reason behind that decision? Do you also enjoy that side of the music industry?

I started uploading music production tutorials on YouTube as a launchpad for my music career. As the channel grew, so did the revenue and I was able to reinvest what I made from tutorials back into my music. Many of my subscribers also became listeners because they liked my content enough to want to know what else I was up to. However, one of the most rewarding things about my content is how many independent artists and producers I’ve been able to help out. Being independent myself I understand the struggle of having to do everything on your own. I try to be the channel that I would’ve wanted to see when I was first starting off. I have plans to bring back the didactic content as I’ve learned so many things this past year that many independent artists could benefit from!

Do you think that your Latin roots influence your music? How?

As I’ve mentioned earlier, one of my goals this year is to become more fluent in Spanish. Growing up I’ve always felt a disconnect from my heritage because of the language barrier. My grandparents only speak Spanish and I’d love to be able to finally communicate with them the way I do with the rest of my family. I’m proud to be Hispanic and I want my music to reflect that. So what’s the best way to embrace my culture? Spanish! I have a few songs with some Spanish lyrics, but I’d love to be able to write an entire song in the language. In terms of my sound I definitely think some of my alternative / indie influence comes from my dad, who used to always listen to Spanish Rock bands like Café Tacuba when I was growing up.

If you were a… type of plant?

This is a perfect question for me because I LOVE gardening. I’d be a cantaloupe vine. There’s no better plant. They can be grown vertically up a trellis to save space, they’re super efficient and can produce 4-6 fruit in a single growing season, and the fruit is freaking delicious! Sugar cube cantaloupe is particularly good. I tried one from a farmers market for the first time a few months ago and it was the best cantaloupe I’ve had yet. I grew a few cantaloupe last year and I’m determined to grow more again this year.

❤️‍🔥 What was your favorite CD when you were a teen?

“The Human Condition” by Jon Bellion! It’s still one of my favorites to this day. Jon is one of the reasons why I decided to pursue music in the first place. The love he has for his craft is contagious and I’d love to be able to work with him one day just for the fun of it.

Fuck, marry, kill in the music industry…GO!

Oof, I’d probably F spill tab. She’s a beautiful musician and person AND she speaks French (I have a secret crush on her). Kill Pres. Gotta eliminate the competition LMAO. I’m kidding I’m kidding. Marry Verzache, but in a platonic sense. His music hits differently than any other artist I’ve listened to, so why wouldn’t I want to be around that everyday? Or I’d marry spill tab.

What song is 10/10 yet hardly anyone has heard of it?

DEVIN MØRE – Love Story. Amazing song that definitely deserves more streams than it has.

Anything you want to add before we finish?

To any musician reading this, continue creating and don’t be afraid to show your genius! Also, spill tab hit me up please. I’d love to collab.
