Building an Independent Release Ecosystem: indiemono, and Distromono

Over the past years, indiemono has steadily evolved from a discovery platform into a broader ecosystem designed to support independent artists at different stages of their careers. While curation and visibility have always been at the core of the project, distribution and release strategy have become a natural next step.

This evolution has taken shape through two complementary pillars: professional releases distributed (pro distribution), and the creation of Distromono as a flexible, artist-first distribution platform.

Professional releases since 2018

Indiemono offers artists a professional release framework without forcing them into a traditional label model. Through this partnership, selected releases are distributed globally with the same technical standards, delivery quality and platform relationships used by established labels.

Rather than acting as a conventional label, indiemono uses this channel to support releases that make sense within a broader artistic and strategic context – often tied to compilation projects, catalogue development or long-term artist relationships.

From distribution to infrastructure

As indiemono grew, a recurring issue became clear: many artists needed reliable distribution tools, but not necessarily a label relationship. At the same time, existing distribution services often lacked transparency, flexibility or a real understanding of how independent projects operate day to day.

This gap led to the creation of Distromono.

Distromono: a distribution platform built around artists

Distromono was designed as a practical, no-nonsense distribution platform for independent artists who want control, clarity and sustainability. The focus is not on aggressive marketing promises, but on giving artists solid infrastructure to release music properly and consistently.

Key principles behind Distromono include:

  • Full ownership and control of their distribution

  • Clear, predictable pricing without revenue commissions

  • Straightforward management of releases, splits and royalties

  • A workflow designed around real-world independent release needs

Distromono is not positioned as a competitor to major labels or high-touch services, but as a dependable foundation artists can build on – whether they are releasing independently, collaborating with other artists, or preparing for more advanced release strategies.

One ecosystem, different paths

What connects indiemono official releases and Distromono is not a single business model, but a shared philosophy: artists should be able to choose the level of structure and support they need at any given moment.

Some projects benefit from the reach and positioning of a professional distribution partner. Others simply need a stable, transparent way to get music out into the world without friction. Both approaches can coexist within the same ecosystem.

Rather than forcing artists into predefined boxes, indiemono aims to provide tools, context and pathways; allowing projects to grow organically, at their own pace, and with a clear understanding of how the industry actually works.
