📢 Give us 5 emerging artists that you want to highlight for everyone to discover right now

David SaziasZakmesXcelencia – Marth – Inf (and if it’s not too weird I’ll share my own lofi alter ego Oaty. hahaha)

🎧 What is your current favorite / guilty pleasure / go-to playlist? ( no pressure, it doesn’t have to be Indiemono’s)

Lately, I’ve been listening to ‘Good Vibes’ on Spotify. If I’m more in a mood for beats I relax a bit with ‘Lofi beats’.

Where does your name come from?

So back in the day I used to rap, I’ve started singing a bit during the last year of high school. The tracks I was making always had this big band brass sound combined with some latin and electronic stuff. The big band sound reminded me of soundtracks from detective shows like Inspector Gadget. I’ve googled some detective stuff (like a real detective) and saw the show ‘Columbo’. That was my new name right there, I just new it because of the big band reference and it also sounds latin, like you’re saying Colombia or something. But only ‘Columbo’ didn’t feel complete yet, it missed something personal. I’ve always been a person that doesn’t like to be in the spotlight, but I still want to share the music that I create. So I came up with ‘Camo’ from the word camouflage. I thought it was a cool original combination of words and meaning so since my artist name ‘Camo Columbo’ was born.

We see you are heavily influenced by bossa nova. What makes this genre special for you?

Everything, the chords, the guitar sound, the rhythm, and the sultry sunny vibe of the compositions. I think that Bossa Nova really soothes my soul.

Who is your favorite bossa nova artist?

That’s a tough one. I love how Bossa Nova started with João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim. Without them, we probably wouldn’t ever know the genre. But I also love how current artists like Tom Misch or Maye are fusing Bossa with other genres and influences into their music. If I must choose I’d say that João Gilberto is my all-time fav Bossa Nova artist.

What are other genres that influence your music?

Hiphop, Disco, a lot of latin styles like Guajira or Salsa and island music like Calypso.

You love nature. Are you inspired by it? In which place would you live if you had the chance?

I often think about these questions. Do I love nature and am I inspired by it? Yes a lot! I love going outside, to the forest or the beach and always feel refilled after a sunny day. I think I could say that nature is the main source of inspiration for me. Not only the surroundings but also the type of food that you eat will have an effect on my mood. A slice of watermelon or some pineapple juice will instantly ease my mind. In which place I’d live? There are a lot of places I’d like to go. I’ve never been to Australia but I always felt like it’s dangerous to go there for me because I might just stay there, surf a lot and not think about coming back (my mom would kill me, haha). The thing is, I’d love to go to a lot of places, but here in Utrecht, I have a good life with lots of friends and family. I like to travel a lot, but also enjoy coming home. I think I love life. 🙂

If you were a…fruit?

A pineapple. I think that my out-of-bed look is like a pineapple.

A picture of you as a kid

Anything you want to add before we finish?

Ansjovis (Anchovies) hahahaha. My real name is Angelo and some people over here can’t pronounce it properly but more like An-sje-low. I can only see the similarity when it’s written down tho, not when it’s pronounced.
