2021 has been, generally, a year of recovery and this also applies to music. A lot of genre revivals, synth-pop and 80’s atmospheres, fastest BPM’s, hyper pop conquering our hearts but… who are the kings/queens of this year? who are the trend-setters?

20. Maneskin – Beggin’
Maneskin first stole our hearts in Eurovision and they are still getting hotter. Their success is growing every day and their songs are constantly trending on social media, especially on Tik Tok. They even recorded a remix of their song ” I wanna be your slave ” with Iggy Pop!
19. Moth To A Flame – The Weeknd & Swedish House Mafia
Everyone was highly anticipating this collaboration between The Weeknd and the supergroup Swedish House Mafia and it didn’t disappoint. The Weeknd vocals fit perfectly with the electronic production. The track tells the story of one of those fatal attractions that we feel for someone that we know is toxic for us.
18. Better Off – RIELL
Riell comes back with her powerful voice and a self-love message. She is done with bullshit and we are here for it!
17. That’s What I Want – Lil Nas X
Lil Nas X is sick of one-night stands and fuckboys. He wants someone to love and cuddle on a Friday night. We feel you, bro.
16. Smoking Out The Window- Silk Sonic
We are in love with Bruno Mars and Anderson. Paak’s exciting new project, Silk Sonic. This album came as a revelation this year and now the funky groove is trendy. In this song, they are smoking (we aren’t sure what exactly 😉) as they’re trying to forget about a past ex-lover.
15. Good 4 u- Olivia Rodrigo
Talking about revelations… Olivia is one of the biggest stars right now after her nº1 hit “Driver’s license” but she didn’t stop there: almost every song of her LP is trending or was trending on Tik Tok. In this song, Olivia calls out her ex-boyfriend for not liking her anymore. She definitely wrote some relatable lyrics here.
14. Run – Besomorph
Besomorph keeps surprising us almost every week with another banger, in this case, he collaborates with Tom Enzy and they both create an intriguing, spooky and danceable atmosphere.
13. Love Nwantiti (ah ah ah) – Ckay
Ckay fusions Nigerian music with psychedelic pop and it instanly went viral on Tik Tok. Again we have to be grateful to this social media platform to show us another great song. This is one of the most magical sounding songs of the year. We cannot stop humming at the melody! So catchy.
12. Woman – Doja Cat
If we have to talk about trends and hits, Doja Cat is one of the biggest stars that excels at making them. Almost every song of her album “Planet Her” is trending on Tik Tok. She has a very distinctive sound and can pull it off on many different genres! In this one, Doja blends afrobeat and hip hop and talks proudly about being a woman.
11. Bad Habits – Ed Sheeran
After a long hiatus, Ed Sheeran makes a comeback trying new styles such as electronic and dance music, adding a more commercial sound to his repertoire. Some might hate it, some might love it but there’s no doubt that this is one of the hits of the year.
10. La Fama – Rosalia & The Weeknd
Rosalia is always experimenting with her sound and trying new things. On this occasion, she returns with The Weeknd singing a neo-bachata in Spanish. Their remix of Blinding Lights didn’t have too much success but this one is breaking records.
9. My Universe – Coldplay & BTS
Another collaboration that honestly we would have never expected. Coldplay and BTS create a catchy song with a bold declaration: “You’re my universe“. The song is included in Coldplay’s new album “Music Of The Spheres” that revolves around a cosmic theme.
8. MONEY- LISA
LISA is the third solo artist of the K-Pop girl band BLACKPINK. Money is the second single of her upcoming debut album “LALISA”
7. Heat Waves – Glass Animals
Who would have thought the indie rock band Glass Animals would go viral on Tik Tok? Anything can happen on that platform.
6. One Right Now – Post Malone & The Weeknd
This was clearly a good year for The Weeknd, and another great feature but this time with Post Malone. Both performances blend beautifully together in The Weekend’s ’80s synthpop trademark style.
5. Cold Heart – Elton John & Dua Lipa
If we were talking about unusual collaborations, this one could be the winner but it stands up also because of its impressive quality. Cold Heart samples John’s classic “Sacrifice” and interpolates another classic, Rocket Man.
4. Shivers- Ed Sheeran
Another one for Ed Sheeran on this ranking. He combines an uneasy instrumental with his colorful vocals and a vibrant melody. We also want to highlight his lyricism that makes it so easy for us listeners to get a full picture in our mind.
3. All Too Well – Taylor Swift
This ranking wouldn’t be complete without Taylor Swift. She has been through a lot: Taylor re-recorded all her old LPs to have rights over her own masters. This is not only an example of bravery but this could open a new path for all the artists that want to own their own records.
2. STAY – The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber
Stay is probably one of the catchiest pop songs of the year but it’s not just the melody that sounds catchy, the synths also create constant hooks with their distinctive synthpop sound that is highly addictive. The genre is the perfect blend between new-wave and pop-punk.
1. Easy On Me – Adele
Adele comes back with “30” and the single Easy On Me. A heartfelt ballad about a break-up with really raw and nostalgic lyrics, something that shows her real and vulnerable side as she sings. “I know there’s hope in these waters / But I can’t bring myself to swim when I am drowning / In this silence, baby / Let me in.”
This is our top so far. If you had to choose one of these songs as your number one, which one would it be?
