Songs about the earth – Earth day 🌱

Songs about the earth – Earth day 🌱
22nd April 2022 sandra

Today is International Earth Day and we want to celebrate it with music, as always.

On this occasion, we are collaborating with Rival, Caravn, Laura Brehm and Lea Bruckner to raise awareness of this cause by donating all the benefits of their new single “Feel Like Home” to Nabu.

We also have created a list of songs that talk about our planet and how much we need to take care of it.

Depeche Mode – The Landscape is changing

The song was released in 1983 and it was written by Alan Wilder. The lyrics talk about the exploration of natural landscapes for money and how it’s deteriorating our planet.

The landscape is changing
The landscape is crying
Thousands of acres of forest are dying
Carbon copies from the hills above the forest line

Talking Heads – Nothing but (flowers)

“A vision of a future where civilization is overrun by nature, much to the chagrin of the natives. Byrne is a genius at saying it all between the lines, and this little gem is a light-hearted romp into our greener-grass lives.”

Here we stand
Like an Adam and an Eve
Waterfalls
The Garden of Eden
Two fools in love

Tom Lehrer – Pollution

Tom Lehrer wrote this satirical song in 1960 but the lyrics are still relevant to this day.

If you visit American city,
You will find it very pretty.
Just two things of which you must beware:
Don’t drink the water and don’t breathe the air!

Queen – Is This The World We Created…?

“Is This the World We Created…?” was written in Munich after lead singer Freddie Mercury and guitarist Brian May watched the news of poverty in Africa;  It was Queen’s contribution to the multi-artist compilation Greenpeace – The Album.

Is this the world we created?
What did we do it for?
Is this the world we invaded
Against the law?

Michael Jackson – Earth Song

This ballad incorporates elements of blues, gospel and opera. The lyrics describe the situation that humanity has caused, ranging from war to devastation of the earth. Michael calls on people to remember the earth is their inheritance from God.

What about sunrise?
What about rain?
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain?

Louis Armstrong – What a beautiful world

There’s no better way to end this list than with this song. A celebration of life and its beauty. Don’t take it for granted 💚

I see trees so green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you.
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
