About The Mountain:

The original vision of Damon Albarn and Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett was to renew their creative vows through a series of “classic Indian odysseys”. However, between their two trips to the country, the idea completely shifted. In the span of just ten days, both men lost their fathers, turning their second visit into a soul-searching pilgrimage.

Albarn found himself swimming in the Ganges, scattering his father’s ashes into its ancient mythology. It was through this profound experience that he found the concept for The Mountain, the successor to 2023’s more muted Cracker Island. To bring this new vision to life, he’s not only recruiting a suite of classical Indian musicians but also diving deep into his archives for unreleased recordings by deceased Gorillaz collaborators, turning this album into an homage to their souls.
