Are you tired of hearing the same Halloween songs every damn year? We’re here again with our top 10 of the spookiest songs for this Halloween but these are not the typical ones, we’re adding an indie flavor to our pumpkin playlist recipe 😈
We love spooky nights but songs for children aren’t our thing (yet) Remember that if you have the perfect song for this playlist (or for another one) you can submit through here
These are only the top 10 songs but you can find the full playlist right here:
10. Seven Devils – Florence + The Machine
Florence brings us an enigmatic song with very dark energy. The singer is surrounded by seven demons and sentenced to die.
Seven devils all around me
Seven devils in my house
See, they were there when I woke up this morning
I’ll be dead before the day is done
9. Lullaby- The Cure
The reality is that we know that Robert Smith isn’t the representation of light and pure joy. He had to be in this ranking and Lullaby is the perfect song for that. A sinister vocal delivery and ambiguous lyrics turn this tune into a scary lullaby.
And I feel like I’m being eaten
By a thousand million shivering furry holes
And I know that in the morning I will wake up
In the shivering cold
8. Halloween- Phoebe Bridgers
Phoebe Bridgers and her signature skeleton costume had to also be in this ranking. Phoebe’s vocals sound so soothing yet intriguing. “Halloween” is the perfect match for our playlist.
Always surprised by what I do for love
Some things I never expect
They killed a fan down by the stadium
Was only visiting, they beat him to death
7. Devil’s advocate- The Neighbourhood
In this spooky selection, we also have time for dancing. The neighbourhood play’s the devil’s advocate on this one with fuzzy synths and guitar riffs.
“This song is about that voice inside your head that is constantly reminding you of the worst things that can happen as a result of your actions,“
I’m the devil’s advocate
You don’t know the half of it
Good luck tryna manage it
If a God is a dog, and a man is a fraud
Then I’m a lost cause
6. The Hanging Tree- Angus and Julia Stone
A bit eerie, I’m afraid. But perfect for this night, right?
Are you, are you
Coming to the tree
They strung up a man
They say who murdered three.
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met at midnight.
In the hanging tree.
5. 1980s Horror Film- Wallows
We agree with Wallows on this one. There’s nothing more terrific than feelings of unrequited love for a friend.
She was sitting there
I could touch her hair
But still we watched
A 1980s horror film
4. Big Guns- Ruelle
A cinematic and intriguing production combined with Ruelle’s sweet voice. Bittersweet.
Every little move is fixed
Like a game of chess
The blood on your hands is thick
And you’re placing bets
3. I Will Follow You Into The Dark- Death Cab for Cutie
“I think what it is about ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark that connects to people is the fact that we are all going to lose everyone in our lives,” “Everyone in our lives is going to die. We too will die someday, and people will mourn us”
If Heaven and Hell decide that they both are satisfied
Illuminate the no’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you when your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
2. I’ll die anyway. – girl in red
The lyrics are not exactly a demonstration of happiness but we find them pretty spooky for this season.
I reach for me but I’m not there
It’s so lonely but who cares
It’s fine, it’s okay
I’ll die anyway
1. Meet Me in the Woods – Lord Huron
The record starts with a haunting introduction but develops into a vibrant ballad creating the perfect atmosphere for an autumn evening.
I have seen what the darkness does
Say goodbye to who I was
I ain’t never been away so long
Don’t look back them days are gone
