Mark your calendars for June 7th, as kikomori and Sala are set to release their highly anticipated track, “Go Home.”
This collaboration fuses two distinct yet complementary artistic styles, promising a unique listening experience.
About kikomori: The story behind name and music
Kikomori, born Federico (Kiko) Medeiros and from Lisbon, is a multifaceted artist whose work spans both music and digital art. But, where does his name come from…really? It’s an abridged version of “Hikikomori”, a Japanese term that refers to a social phenomenon where individuals, often young adults, withdraw from society and remain in their homes for extended periods (sometimes years…).
“hiku” (to pull) + “komoru” (to retire) = pull inward /confinement
Known for his ambient and electronic soundscapes, kikomori’s music often explores topics of introspection and emotional depth. He’s known to find inspiration in a variety of genres and sounds, including Bedroom Pop, Lo-Fi, Electronica, City Pop, and Videogame music. His style? A blend of ethereal melodies and immersive beats that make a captivating and soothing sound.
Since his debut EP, Game Over (2022), and inclusion in Mark Ronson’s weekly playlist ZELECTS, we’ve been following him closely and proudly, seeing his personal and professional growth. That’s why we’re today again, to share his latest release and collaboration with Sala, “Go Home”. But first, let’s learn a bit more about Sala.
About Sala: Songwriting, singing, and collaborations
With a style rooted in R&B and hip-hop, Sala is a singer who’ll grab your attention with her clear, heart-touching voice; this and the fact that she talks about real-life situations has made her into a Gen-Z musical reference.
She experiments with sounds, from dance music to ballads, and her voice allows her to do so. Her genre-transcending talent captivates listeners, earning her spots on numerous playlists, including her very own such as This is Sala or Radio Sala.
As you can see, she has a vast track record of collaborations. This is probably because who wouldn’t want a collab with an artist who brings a fresh perspective to every project? This time, her emotional resonance and lyrical depth make her the perfect match for kikomori’s introspective and atmospheric style.
