SURE YOU DON’T LIKE THEM? WELL, WE’RE NOT SURE YOU’RE SURE. HERE’S OUR TOP 5 SONGS YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO IF YOU THINK YOU DON’T LIKE THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS.
We all know who they are, with four albums out and fifteen years behind their backs the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have become an icon; who hasn’t gone wild with Heads Will Roll or loudly sung Maps to the despair of our neighbours? Sadly, last year they announced an hiatus to devote themselves to their solo careers. For all the ones out there who have mixed feelings about them and for all the ones who miss them as much as we do, here we bring you a top 5 of their undoubtedly not-so-famous acoustic songs. Because sometimes, less is best.
1. Soft Shock
From It’s Blitz album (2009).
The first in our top 5 is this masterpiece. A song about the desperation you feel when something has come to an end.
2. Despair
From Mosquito (2013), the last YYYs album.
Teenage angst plus fifteen more years. When you look back and realise your life hasn’t gone quite as planned. We’ve all been there.
3. Skeletons
From It’s Blitz, again.
It’s about when it’s over and you have to tell that person you once deeply cared about to forget you. Not an easy task, huh? Well, now you can do it with this beautiful song.
4. Turn Into
Acoustic version from Itunes Sessions (2006). Regular version from Show Your Bones (2006).
We know… feelings, feelings, feelings. We’re getting emotional over here.
5. Hysteric
From It’s Blitz.
Last but not least, one that won’t make you sob for a change!
On the fifth position we find this subtle, sweet and optimistic (as optimistic as a song sung by Karen O can be) song.
If you’ve liked our top 5, don’t forget to check Karen O’s solo album Crush Songs (2014) for more heart-breaking acoustic songs. Finally, we’ll leave you with this delightful acoustic version of Maps. Enjoy!
