Banana Interview with Sebastian Mayor: Answers, Gyros, and Decent Hair

Step into the mind of Sebastian Mayor, the indie artist who’s not just carving out a space in the music world but doing so with charm, honesty, and a dash of humor!

From his earliest Coldplay-inspired riffs to crafting lyrics while embracing the magic of boredom, this artist keeps it real.

In this interview, he’s allowed us to dive into his creative process, favorite YouTube binges, and impressive skills at… packing a car trunk like a pro!

Banana Interview: Meet Sebastian Mayor

1️⃣ Can you recall the first song you ever wrote or performed?

A total ripoff of Coldplay’s Yellow! I was 9 years old and had just started to learn guitar, I loved “Yellow” so much that I wrote about 3 songs that were basically identical to it.

How do you find inspiration for your lyrics and melodies?

I’m always observing, taking things in from daily life, and thoughts. I just always leave the tap on, so never really have to actively ‘look’ for inspiration!

It helps to let yourself be bored sometimes; no AirPods on with music or podcasts. Just being bored forces you to be more observant.

How do you approach the challenge of staying original in a saturated industry?

I just try to focus on the things I genuinely like, being the person I am, and actively showing that!

Accepting one’s limitations, not trying to ‘fit in’ too much, and searching for those lyrics or that sound that YOU would want to hear.

If your latest song was a movie, what genre would it be and who would you cast in the lead roles?

Dev Patel

Dev Patel

I think it’d be an independent feel-good drama, with good warm aesthetics, shot somewhere warm with analog hand-held cameras.

Not sure he’d do a small film but Dev Patel would suit! I think he’d rock that “young guy figuring things out” role.

If you were a type of fast food you’d be…

Gyros.

❤️‍ What’s your favorite YouTube channel (short answer)…

Those jungle hut-building guys.

Choose one question… What is a part of your body you can brag about?

Not sure I can brag but I’ve got a decent head of hair!

Choose the last question… Something you’re really good at, but it’s a strange ability.

Tetris with luggage in a car trunk.

You just released your new single, “Something Special.” What were your sonic influences for this song?

It starts out very João-Gilbertonian…kind of bossa, but unfolds into a more four-on-the-floor groove. I guess in the rhythm section you can find some soulful influences…though I can’t quite point one out specifically!

What’s the most special thing that has ever happened to you, musically speaking?

It happens quite often and is just that moment of initial spark of a great idea; that comes seemingly out of nowhere. This still amazes me every time!

Banana Wrap: Beyond Sebastian Mayor Answers

From penning heartfelt songs to rocking the gyros life metaphor, this artist proves that originality comes from embracing who you are—limitations and all. Oh, and if you’re ever on a road trip, you’ll know who to call for the luggage situation!

Here’s to many more songs, feel-good dramas, and perhaps, more jungle hut-building videos to come.
